PWAs & browser APIs
Installable apps from one web codebase, built for the browsers your audience uses
A progressive web app (PWA) installs on phones, tablets and desktops from the browser, opens in its own window without browser controls, and works offline. Combined with native browser APIs and a support policy based on your real audience, a PWA can often replace separate native apps.
What a PWA gives you
- Installation from the browser, with your icon on the home screen or desktop.
- A standalone window with no address bar, and kiosk mode for dedicated devices.
- Offline support through a service worker.
- Push notifications and app shortcuts.
- One release path for every platform, with no app-store review for each update.
When you need app-store distribution or hardware the browser can't reach, we wrap the same code with Capacitor, Tauri or Electron.
Native browser APIs we put to work
Modern browsers can do much more than most apps use. Depending on your product:
Wake Lock
Keeps a POS or kitchen display screen on.
Web Serial, WebUSB, WebHID and Web Bluetooth
Connect to scanners, scales, printers and sensors in Chromium-based browsers.
WebAuthn and passkeys
Sign-in without passwords.
Web Share, Clipboard and File System Access
Move content in and out of the app.
Payment Request
Faster checkout with stored payment methods.
Each one is feature-detected, with a fallback for browsers that don't support it.
Browser compatibility based on your audience
We don't guess which browsers to support. We read your analytics, set a Browserslist target that covers the browsers your customers actually use, and build to it. Newer features are added as progressive enhancements, and polyfills ship only to browsers that need them. Testing runs on real devices across that matrix before each release.
FAQ
Frequently asked questions
01Do PWAs work on iPhone?
Yes. iOS supports installing PWAs to the home screen, offline use and push notifications. A few APIs, such as Web Bluetooth, aren't available on iOS, and we plan around that during architecture.
02Can a PWA replace our native app?
Often, yes, especially for internal tools, POS and B2B products. If you need deep hardware access or app-store discovery, a wrapped hybrid app is the middle ground.
