One unified ecosystem

The challenge

Fans everywhere. Systems everywhere.

Sports organizations serve fans across devices, regions, languages, and distribution channels. Match content must be available live and on demand, ticket inventory must remain synchronized as bookings change, customer support must respond across multiple channels, and club content must be distributed consistently.

At the same time, large audiences generate significant operational and analytical workloads. User identity, access control, payments, content rights, fan engagement, and infrastructure health must be managed without treating each application as an isolated system.

EdgeSport was designed to bring these experiences into a unified ecosystem, connecting the club, its content, its services, and its fan community.

Workflow spotlights

Three workflows that make it more than a player.

A closer look at how localized advertising, ticket inventory, and TV sign-in work. Every capability is described in full in the platform explorer below.

01 / AI-assisted advertising localization

One match. A localized broadcast per feed.

Perimeter boards and selected on-field placements can vary by destination or target audience for supported broadcasts.

  1. Source broadcast
  2. Feed A · Region one
  3. Feed B · Region two
  4. Feed C · Partner channel
One broadcast feed with perimeter boards replaced per region and partner channel

02 / Real-time ticket inventory

Availability that never goes stale.

  1. 01

    Available

Seat shown as open to every user.

  2. 02

    Held

Reserved while the user completes booking.

  3. 03

    Paid

Confirmed after a successful payment outcome.

Not completed within the reservation window? The hold expires and the seat returns to Available.

Rules can account for booking states, expiration windows, payment outcomes, and event-specific configuration.

03 / TV application & device login

Sign in on the TV without the remote.

01 / 6 capabilities

Media and match experiences

Live and on-demand coverage, localized commercial inventory, and match information in formats that reach fans beyond the video player.

Video on Demand (VOD)

The VOD component allows users to watch available matches and other video content on demand.

Fans can return to individual games and published video assets whenever it suits them, rather than relying exclusively on live broadcasts. The VOD experience forms part of the platform's broader content-distribution ecosystem and can be integrated with the club's content-management and user-experience services.

Video availability can be managed according to publication settings and applicable content rights.

Live streaming and multi-quality distribution

EdgeSport includes live-streaming capabilities for broadcasting matches to supported distribution destinations.

The streaming workflow supports multiple video quality levels to accommodate different network conditions, devices, and playback environments. This helps provide a more consistent viewing experience for audiences connecting with different bandwidth capabilities.

The distribution layer is designed to support delivery across multiple destinations, subject to the capabilities and configuration of each distribution service.

AI-assisted advertising localization

The live-streaming workflow includes an AI-assisted advertising concept for adapting visible stadium advertising across different distribution feeds.

For supported broadcasts, advertising around the pitch, including perimeter boards and selected on-field advertising placements, can be varied by destination or target audience. This enables different versions of the same match broadcast to present localized advertising opportunities.

The objective is to help sports organizations and commercial partners make better use of advertising inventory across regions and distribution channels.

The implementation depends on the video-processing pipeline, production workflow, advertising assets, and supported broadcast formats.

Multilingual experiences

EdgeSport supports a multilingual product approach across its services, helping clubs reach audiences in different languages.

Language support is relevant to international fan communities, academy programs, news distribution, customer support, and digital media experiences. Available languages can be configured according to product requirements and content availability.

Match event streaming

The event-streaming component is designed to detect or receive match events and distribute them in formats suitable for different applications.

Depending on the available event data and configured outputs, match events can support text-based updates, audio-style commentary or radio experiences, and subtitle-like or on-screen information in compatible systems.

This makes match information accessible beyond conventional video streaming, including experiences for users who cannot watch a match directly or prefer alternative forms of coverage.

Match results and updates

The platform includes match-result functionality for presenting scores and related match information.

Results can be made available to supported applications and services, helping keep the broader fan experience connected to match activity.

Data freshness and coverage depend on the available data sources and configured integrations.

End-to-end platform experience

Infrastructure & delivery engineering

Built to carry a large audience.

Streaming, ticketing, identity, mobile, and transaction-related services run on a shared, version-controlled operations foundation.

Kubernetes-based high-availability infrastructure

EdgeSport was designed to support a large audience and a broad set of connected services. Its infrastructure included four configured HPE ProLiant Gen11 servers running Kubernetes, with high-availability requirements across the platform.

The Kubernetes environment provided a common orchestration layer for deploying and operating services. This approach supported service management, operational consistency, and the platform's ongoing development.

High availability depends on more than multiple servers. It also requires appropriate redundancy, workload placement, storage and network design, backup and recovery procedures, and tested failure-handling mechanisms.

GitOps and continuous delivery

The platform's development and operations approach included GitOps to manage changes to infrastructure and application deployments through version-controlled definitions.

This supports traceability and repeatability by making deployment configuration part of a reviewable workflow, and helps teams coordinate frequent releases across multiple services while maintaining greater consistency between declared and deployed configurations.

Secrets and environment management

The platform's operational scope included secrets management and environment configuration for distributed services.

Separating sensitive values from application code and managing environment-specific configuration helps reduce configuration drift and supports safer deployments.

The effectiveness of these practices depends on the tools used, permissions, rotation procedures, and operational controls.

Service monitoring and operations

The infrastructure and its supporting services were designed to be managed with ongoing monitoring and operational visibility.

For a platform combining streaming, ticketing, identity, mobile, and transaction-related services, this visibility helps teams detect failures, investigate degraded performance, and understand dependencies across the system. Monitoring provides a foundation for more informed operational decisions and incident response.

Edgerunners' contribution

From media delivery to the infrastructure beneath it.

Our work on EdgeSport covered product and platform capabilities across media delivery, fan engagement, operational systems, and infrastructure.

The combination of media, fan engagement, compliance-aware workflows, and operational infrastructure made EdgeSport a multi-service platform rather than a standalone streaming or ticketing application.

  • Video on Demand and live-streaming experiences with multi-quality distribution.
  • AI-assisted localization of supported stadium advertising across distribution feeds.
  • Ticketing workflows with synchronized inventory and booking-state handling.
  • Customer support, ticket management, and configured cross-channel messaging.
  • Match event streaming, match results, and multilingual experiences.
  • Shared identity through SSO and device-based login for TV experiences.
  • Mobile services, loyalty programs, fantasy football, and academy workflows.
  • News and image distribution, including rights-aware media workflows.
  • Centralized administration, user access management, and event analytics.
  • Kubernetes-based infrastructure, GitOps, secrets, and environment management.
  • A central knowledge-base approach for technical, business, and legal information.

Availability of individual capabilities, distribution destinations, financial services, and languages depends on configuration, service providers, and applicable requirements.
